PC Carrie Shanks said.
“Members of the Bluelight Partnership committee of Northern Constabulary in Ross and Cromarty Area Command were absolutely delighted to receive a Highly Commended Scottish Policing Award for  their Bluelight Events in October.

These events were implemented in Ross shire in June 2008 and numerous successful events have been held since this time, attracting 100's of young people from the secondary schools in the area. It has provided close links with young people and provides communities with alternative youth activities to discourage criminal behaviours, promote positive role models and reduce opportunities for antisocial behaviour.

This is the second time the Partnership has received an award and is an excellent example of their dedication and commitment in this very worthwhile youth diversion activity."

Here’s what some of the Bluelight partners think about Bluelight.

Highland and Islands Fire and Rescue Services, Chief Fire Officer Brian Murray.
"Highlands and Islands Fire and Rescue Service, and our partners, are committed to working with young people to positively address the challenging issue of drug & alcohol use in our area. This event gives our staff an opportunity to engage with young people in a fun relaxed and safe meeting place. It has also opened up new and unusual volunteering opportunities for Fire Service staff who want to help out in their local communities.
By providing this type of event, we hope the young people will enjoy the experience of dancing, meeting and socialising in a safe and friendly environment"

Scott Pearson, Stagecoach Operations Manager, in Inverness said: "We are delighted with being involved in such a worthwhile project. By providing transport to the event, we hope that we can contribute to the popularity and success of the evening."

Community Safety Police Officer, Carrie Shanks, Central Division:-
"We are very excited about this 1st event for our area. A lot of effort has been put into making sure that those who come on the night  have such a fantastic time they will be desperate to come back. A number of partners have been working very closely together. By putting on this event we want to send out the message to young people that you don't need to take drink and/or drugs to have a good time. The aim of Bluelight is to provide a safe and fun environment for youths that does not involve alcohol or drugs and that is what we want to achieve."
